IN PROGRESS

Quince Street Bridge Historic Marker

The Bankers Hill Community Group is organizing an effort to recognize and honor the city’s (and the county’s) oldest trestle bridge.

The 1905 pedestrian span over Maple Canyon lacks an historic plaque. Our community group is going to change that.

The walkway was designed city engineer George d’Hemecourt with input from neighboring residents. This bridge is older than the Spruce Street Pedestrian Bridge and the First Avenue Bridge which have had their historic plaques for decades.

The BHCG initiated a GoFundMe fundraising effort in May 2023 , which has been successful in collecting enough generous donations to pay for the design, fabrication and installation of the historic Quince bridge plaque - a HUGE thank you from Bankers Hill Community Group to all our donors!!

Installation of the plaque is anticipated for late fall 2023 or early winter 2024, contingent upon the progress of the City's Maple Canyon Restoration project work adjacent to the plaque site. Stay tuned for details of our plaque "unveiling" event.
